En bra utgångspunkt för denna tur är Storsand. Dit kommer du med bil genom att köra över Forsbackabron och ta vägen österut mot Stålnäset. Det är förstås skyltat, men uppmärksamma att det finns två stora näs/uddar norr om Söderhamn, och Stålnäset är den nordligaste av de två. Efter fem till sex kilometer har du Storsand på höger sida. Storsand är en fin badplats, med tältmöjligheter. Kanske reder du dig ett basläger här på sandstranden?
Från Storsand paddlar du ut i Midsommarfjärden och rundar Stålnäset. Du är redan nu inne i en spännande skärgårdsmiljö som heter Stålnäshararna. Den består av ett tal öar och harar (harar är alltså den lokala beteckningen för skär eller kobbar). De flesta öar saknar skog.
Stålhararna är betydelsefulla för sjöfågelbeståndet och flera av öarna är viktiga häckningsöar. Du visar förstås respekt för de restriktioner som råder, men det är alltid tillåtet att fågelskåda.
Det är fridfullt och vackert att glida längs med och runt dessa skoglösa öar. De är inte särskilt tältvänliga, men det gör ju inget eftersom du redan har ditt basläger vid Storsand.
