Etymology

From Old Swedishaka, from Old Norseaka, from Proto-Germanic*akaną. Cognate with Danishage. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European*h₂eǵ-. Doublet of agera, which was borrowed from Latinagō, from the same ultimate Proto-Indo-European source.
